Charles Henry Werchan Sr., 88, of Austin, passed away peacefully to be with our Lord in heaven July 17, 2022.

Charles was born Sept. 2, 1933, in Taylor, to Hilda (Lange) Werchan and Henry Frank Werchan of Taylor. Charles was reborn in 1933 in the waters of baptism at Christ Lutheran Church in Noack. He was confirmed in the Christian faith at Christ Lutheran.

Charles attended Taylor schools from grades first through 12th, then joined the United States Air Force. He was married to Edith M. Steffik, of Granger, Feb. 22, 1955, to Jan. 30, 1975, and they had six children.

During his working career Charles was employed by Superior Dairy in Austin, and the Frito Lay Company when he retired.

On Jan. 18, 1986, he married Lynel (Kindred, Cells) of Marlin, for 36 years of a blessed marriage.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Hilda (Lange) and Henry Werchan; and grandson, Charles H. Werchan III of Elgin; and niece, Heather N. Werchan of Austin.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Lynel Werchan, of 36 years; his children, Charles H.Werchan II, Alan Werchan, Steven Werchan and wife Leicel, Gwendolyn (Werchan) Berger and husband Fred and Janice (Werchan), Jaques and husband Karl, and David Werchan, Anginette (Cells) Jorrey and husband Mark, Ronnie Cells and wife Kim, and David Cells and wife Kathryn. He had 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janet (Werchan) Klotz and husband Harvey and Lois (Werchan) Johnson and husband Lester; and one brother, James Werchan and wife Ruby (Wilhite) Werchan of Austin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

We give thanks to God our Father, through Jesus Christ our Lord, for our Christian brother, Charles.

Charles’ final resting place is Taylor City Cemetery.
