Chief financial officer to budget time to ‘Talk’

Helping Taylor keep track of its finances can be detailed job, and the man in charge of those details will be interviewed Monday.

The eighth episode of the Taylor Press video interview series with city of Taylor staff, “Taylor Talk with Jason Hennington,” will be Monday, July 11, at noon on the Taylor Press Facebook page. Jeff Wood, Taylor chief financial officer, is the planned guest.

As chief financial officer, Wood plays a big part in the city’s budget and finanicial planning. Wood has held the position since March 2019. From 2019 through 2022, Taylor’s finance department has received multiple Distinguished Budget Awards and Certificates of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association.

Wood succeeded Rosemarie Dennis, who had been finance director since 2006 before retiring. When Wood was hired, Deputy City Manager Jeff Jenkins said Wood stood out because of his background and experience.

“I think that Mr. Wood’s financial perspective will allow him to not only maintain our finances, but also help us manage our financial picture effectively and efficiently as our city continues to grow,” said Jenkins. “He has a lot of great experience working with a tight budget, and I feel confident that he will do a good job of helping us stay on track. I’m looking forward to welcoming him to Texas.”

The first seven episodes of Taylor Talk featured City Manager Brian LaBorde, Deputy City Manager Jeff Jenkins, Police Chief Henry Fluck, human resource director LaShon Gros, Parks and Recreation director Tyler Bybee, library director Karen Ellis and Fire Chief Daniel Baum. The show is scheduled to broadcast on the second Monday of every month at noon, with this month’s broadcast being an exception. The show complements the Taylor Press’ other live show, “Around the Watercooler,” which airs at 11:15 a.m. Thursdays and primarily covers local sports along with other topics.
