The Hutto City Council is set to honor local Eagle Scout candidate Elliott Koncaba during the July 7 City Council meeting for his work on an Eagle Scout Community Project.
Koncaba, a member of Boy Scout Troop 350, developed, produced and delivered a series of five flag retirement boxes around town for the community to place unserviceable American flags. All flags collected will be properly retired by American Legion Post 302.
Koncaba worked with local leaders to deliver the boxes to Hutto City Hall, the Hutto Police Department, Hutto Fire Station No. 1, Hutto Fire Station No. 2 and American Legion Post 302 in mid-June. The boxes will officially be unveiled at the July 7 City Council meeting, then the City Council will present Koncaba with an official recognition for his hard work and dedication to the community.
Residents can bring their old, tattered and unserviceable flags to any of the permanent flag retirement boxes during normal business hours to be properly retired by American Legion Post 302. According to the United States Flag Code, the American flag should be retired when it is in such a condition that is no longer a fitting emblem for display. Flag retirement boxes are located in the lobbies of the aforementioned locations.
