Daniel Darwin Filla, 83, of Taylor, passed away peacefully at home Friday, June 17, 2022.
Dan was born to Leo Ben and Vlasta Vera (Machu) Filla Feb. 24, 1939, in Granger.
He grew up on the family farm outside of Granger where he helped pick cotton, cut hay and tended to many farm animals.
He attended Granger schools where he was part of the graduating class of 1958.
On March 19, 1960, he married the love of his life, Helen Skrahak Filla, and they celebrated 61 cherished years of marriage. To this marriage they welcomed five children, Daniel Jr, Albert, Danny, Edward and Robert. Dan and Helen also helped raise his brother Milton.
Dan was known for his strong work ethic and providing for his family. He had several jobs throughout his years which included driving a Butterkrust bread truck, Taylor Manufacturing, Cerban and Wilson Plastic. His most proud
His most proud achievement was own ing and operating the Filla Furniture Store on South Main Street in Taylor for over 35 years.
In addition to working full time, Dan and his sons would be out in the hay patches on the family farm cutting hay and tending to cows most nights.
Dan’s hobbies included gardening, canning his harvest which included jellies and pickles, fishing as often as he could and creating ceramics which he and Helen would sell at various shows and festivals. He liked desserts especially kolaches and you could find him most Saturday nights playing dominoes with the Raesz family. He and Helen would go antiquing or to garage sales and never passed up a bargain. He loved telling stories, attending family gatherings and spending time with his sons, grandchildren and Miles, but most importantly he adored and missed his wife, Helen.
