Outstanding citizens

This weekend, the U.S. remembers when new citizens were born of a new country, and two Taylor Independent School District student were recently recognized as remarkable modern citizens.

This weekend, the U.S. remembers when new citizens were born of a new country, and two Taylor Independent School District student were recently recognized as remarkable modern citizens.

Mason Ruemke and Elinor Brinkmeyer won the prestigious American Legion Award for 2022. The prize was presented at Taylor Middle School’s end-of-year awards assembly May 26. Commander Scott Dean of the Graham D. Luhn Post 39 in Taylor presented the awards.

The American Legion Award is presented each year to one eighth grade girl and one eighth grade boy for good character and outstanding citizenship. This longstanding tradition has been presented locally since at least the 1940s.
