Doug Moehnke passed away at home Friday, June 17, 2022, at the age of 70. He was born July 1, 1951, in Taylor, to Rudolph and Rose (Streit) Moehnke with an older sister Joyce Davidson and brother Robert. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in west Taylor and graduated from Taylor High School while also spending a year at Allen Academy in Bryan.
Doug married Joy Wernecke Feb. 27, 1972, and they had two children, Jason and Jeremy.
His career spanned several professions including as the drummer for the traveling band Jimmy Heap and The Melody Masters, a policeman for both Taylor and Thrall, manufacturing farm equipment at Johnson Implements in Thrall, owning and managing a couple different retail stores and remodeling homes.
He also devoted countless hours to volunteer activities including serving as the chief of the Thrall Volunteer Fire Department, fundraising for the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, serving in various capacities at St. John Lutheran Church in Thrall, as well as serving several other programs in the area.
Doug was also a husband for 50 years and the best dad anyone could ever ask for.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, sister, brother, nephew, and numerous other family members.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, sisterin-law, brother-in-law, three nephews, four nieces, six great-nieces, a great-nephew, cousins and their families.
A funeral service will be held Friday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. at St John Lutheran Church in Thrall. Burial will take place at Taylor City Cemetery following the service.
