Dolores graduated from Bastrop High School in 1962. After high school she worked at the phone company and waitressed putting herself through nursing school while raising her daughter.
She graduated from nursing school in 1972. After years of working as an LVN in various health settings she went to work at the IRS processing tax returns as well as working at some local tax offices.
Dolores loved to work and had many hobbies. She sold Avon and Tupperware. She so diligently clipped coupons and mailed in for rebates that sometimes the stores would owe her money back when buying groceries. Her greatest passion was reading the Bible. She chose to live a humble life devoted to God and to show kindness to everyone she encountered.
She and her late husband, Pat, married in 1985. She helped him with the farming and raising animals. They would make and build crafts selling them at various consignment venues and shops throughout the area until he became ill. She then had a booth at a flea market in Jarrell where she would spend weekends working while caring and visiting with Pat in the nursing home.
Chandee, her granddaughter, was her pride and joy. She enjoyed taking care of her and watching her pursue her early adventures in life. She was there to cheer her on and offer her wise advice.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Pat Kelley; and sister, Joyce Honeycutt.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Brett) Bachmeyer of Taylor; brothers, Donald Grohman of Taylor, and Eugene (Linda) Grohman of Ocala, Florida; stepsons, Fred (Trudy) Kelley and Paul Kelley both of Walburg; granddaughter, Chandee Bachmeyer; and numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as her step grand and great grandchildren.
At Dolores’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Instead, she would encourage everyone to be kind to others and to help another in need.
