The Lady Ducks road struggles continued last Friday as they dropped their second straight district game to fall to 1-2 in 4A Region III District 19 action. The Lake Belton Broncos bested the Lady Ducks 55-28.
Lake Belton jumped out in front early taking an 8-0 lead in the first quarter before the Lady Ducks broke into the scoring column. Lake Belton lived at the free-throw line in the quarter and with 2:21 to play in the quarter the Lady Broncos had pulled ahead 9-3. With under 90 seconds remaining in the first Lake Belton had extended their lead to 13-3.
Midway through the second quarter, the Lady Broncos had extended their lead even further 22-5. Taylor’s ball movement seemed to improve; however, the shots were just not there as the Lady Ducks finished the night 0-for-9 from three-point range.
At the half, the Lady Broncos held a giant 32-7 lead over the Lady Ducks.
In the second half, the Lady Ducks upped their gameplay scoring 21 points for the remainder of the contest.
Taylor outscored Lake Belton in the third frame 13-6 to pull within 20 points, 38-20.
A 17-8 fourth-quarter run by the Lady Broncos put the game away dropping the Lady Ducks to 1-2 in district.
Destiny Lewis led Taylor scoring eight points and pulling down eight rebounds. Ansley Reed added seven points and two rebounds for Taylor.
Natalie Alderete had five points and two rebounds and finished 3-for-4 from the charity stripe while A’ja Lucas had four points and six rebounds for the Lady Ducks.
The Taylor girls were back at The Pond on Tuesday to host district leader Burnet who is the lone undefeated team in the district. The lady Bulldogs slipped by Salado 46-42 last Friday.
