Last Friday’s district opener for the Ducks didn’t go as planned. It was a tale of two halves in the contest as the Ducks fell to the Lake Belton Broncos in overtime 50-45. The Ducks record now stands at 8-18 overall and 0-1 in district play.
Taylor came out strong in the first half outscoring the Broncos in the opening quarter 13-9 and then stretching their lead to 25-17 heading into the halftime break.
Lake Belton made halftime adjustments and in the second half took the game over limiting the Ducks to under 10 points per quarter the remainder of the game.
By the end of the third the Broncos had trimmed the Taylor lead to 34-28. In the fourth Lake Belton bullied back taking the quarter 14-8 and sending the game into the extra set.
In overtime the Broncos outscored Taylor 8-3 to secure the five-point victory.
Taylor controlled nearly every stat category out doing Lake Belton in second chance points with nine, points in the paint with 26 and total rebounds with 35.
Against Lake Belton Taylor shot 41% effective field goal percentage going 13-for-23 and 5-for-27 from long range.
The Ducks were out done at the charity stripe by the Broncos who shot 76% from the free throw line.
Against the Broncos the Ducks turned the ball over 24 times, which turned the game in favor of the Broncos.
“We have to continue to only worry about the things we can control and one big thing we can control and do better is limit turnovers,” said Coach Brandon Greene.
Landon Velasquez led the Ducks with nine points and Josef Zuniga added eight points and contributed four steals to the Taylor cause.
Anthony Cottrill led with eight total rebounds in the game for the Ducks
The Ducks were back on the home hardwood Tuesday night for Pack the Pond night as the boys and girls teams hosted Burnet.
