Granger ISD cancels classes, others still a go

An east Williamson County school district will close down Thursday and Friday as neighboring districts monitor a winter weather event heading for the area.

On Wednesday, Jan. 19, Granger ISD announced that the school would be closed Thursday and Friday, Jan. 20-21. Classes will resume Monday, Jan. 24.

Although school will be closed, Granger ISD announced that a free breakfast and lunch combo would still be provided. Food can be picked up from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the back of the campus at the bus loop.

At Taylor ISD, the district released a statement on social media saying that information as of Wednesday afternoon indicated that roads in the area will be safe for travel.

"We plan on having school as usual," said Taylor ISD. "We will continue to monitor the situation, and if plans change we will announce any delays or closures by 5:30 a.m."

Meanwhile, Hutto ISD plans to resume normal operations Thursday after classes had been canceled earlier in the week due to transportation staff shortages.

"The Hutto ISD emergency operations team is monitoring and will be consulting with the Williamson County Office of Emergency Management and city emergency responders throughout the day and overnight," said Hutto ISD in a statement.

Elsewhere, no weather-related changes have been announced by Thrall or Coupland school districts.

Communities are bracing for possible snow, sleet or other winter weather on Thursday. A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect.
