“Shall I tell you the secret of the ‘gay agenda?’ … It is to be loved and accepted as is, just like anyone else, without having to change or be changed.”
— Susan Cottrell
The month of June is dedicated to being the annual Pride Month in the U.S.. Pride Month commemorates years of struggle for the pursuit of equality and freedom.
Pride is the opposite of shame. People simply celebrate that they don’t have to hide anymore.
The Pride “agenda“ is simply to be included and accepted.
People in the LGBTQAI+ community continue to encounter a variety of challenges. The public pressures of acceptance, the personal pressures of coming out can be overwhelming.
The annual celebration of Pride Month aims to facilitate this process by providing a platform for members of the community to tell their stories.
Last year, Taylor hosted its first Pride event. This year, more communities in Williamson County have hosted Pride events to bring the community together. The Taylor Pride festival is on Saturday, June 25, from 2 to 10 p.m. in downtown Taylor. The second annual celebration will feature great bands, street fair and food.
You don’t have to support it, but there is no reason to ridicule people. This is not about division. It’s all about inclusion.
At the end, we are all the same. We are humans who seek respect and understanding.
Love is love. Who you love should not make a difference.
