One of Taylor’s lead guardians will let his guard down for an interview Monday.
The seventh episode of the Taylor Press video interview series with city of Taylor staff, “Taylor Talk with Jason Hennington,” will be Monday, June 13, at noon on the Taylor Press Facebook page. Daniel Baum, Taylor Fire Department chief, is the planned guest.
Baum has been fire chief since April 2019 after previously being assistant fire chief in Pearland. He was also an emergency medical services chief in Pearland and Buda.
One of his most recent honors was Dec. 13, 2021, when Baum was awarded the Patriot Award alongside Assistant Fire Chief Bobby Copeland and Lt. Eric Engelke by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). This honor is awarded each year to supervisors and bosses of employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve. Firefighter Justin Bilicki said he nominated Baum, Copeland and Engelke for their continued support and assistance during his deployment with the National Guard.
The first six episodes of Taylor Talk featured City Manager Brian LaBorde, Deputy City Manager Jeff Jenkins, Police Chief Henry Fluck, human resource director LaShon Gros, Parks and Recreation director Tyler Bybee and library director Karen Ellis. The officials discussed their work, upcoming projects, parts about their life and ways their departments connect to the community.

The show is scheduled to broadcast on the second Monday of every month at noon, with this month’s broadcast being an exception. The show complements the Taylor Press’ other live show, “Around the Watercooler,” which airs at 11:15 a.m. Thursdays and primarily covers local sports along with other topics.
