A road that leads into the planned location of the local Samsung Austin Semiconductor plant is about to undergo a makeover.
Williamson County is starting construction work on County Road 401 from U.S. 79 to north of CR 404 in Taylor. The CR 401 reconstruction project will tie CR 401 into U.S. 79.
The project includes expanding the existing two-lane CR 401 to a fourlane roadway in order to provide more capacity for vehicles to safely travel in the area. The project includes constructing a bridge over Mustang Creek and a cul-de-sac at the south end of the road where it borders the Samsung property.
“Traffic on CR 401 will increase dramatically due to construction of the new Samsung facility, so improvements to this road are a priority in order to increase capacity and safety,” said Precinct 4 Commissioner Russ Boles.
The project was designed by HNTB. The contractor is James Construction Group.
Construction is anticipated to be completed in summer 2023. The project cost is $12,673,200.94 and is being funded with voter-approved 2019 road bonds.
