Ahead of Memorial Day weekend, most local high schools handed out diplomas to their seniors ready for the next chapter of their lives.

Taylor High School held its commencement ceremony Friday night, May 27, at Taylor Stadium. Meanwhile, Thrall High School graduates were taking the stage at Tiger Stadium in Thrall. Granger High School celebrated their graduates Saturday, May 28, at the Taylor ISD Event Center.

The Taylor High School class of 2022 crossed the stage and received their diplomas, culminating their high school careers on a night embraced with warm temperatures. The fair weather was unlike last year’s planned graduation night interrupted by severe thunderstorms.

Both the Taylor valedictorian, Trey Boles, and salutatorian, Lindsay O’Dell, cited in their respective speeches the approaching changes of the local area due to the arrival of Samsung.

Before closing his speech, Boles reminded those in attendance and his classmates of the “six words that grace the sidelines of the Taylor football field.” He encouraged them to always remember and never forget that they always have somewhere to come back to because, ‘Once a Duck, Always a Duck.’

In total, 268 seniors took their next step into the next chapter of their lives — 176 Taylor seniors, 61 Thrall seniors and 31 Granger seniors
