HUTTO – In the city of Hutto’s latest strategic move to reduce reliance on outside water sources while optimizing water costs both for the city and its consumers, the City Council voted to reduce water rates for most city of Hutto water customers—effective this month (January 2022).

While the city has not increased its water rates in five years, the rates have been some of the highest in the region. Moving forward, the average city of Hutto customer will save nearly $200/year on water/ wastewater and possibly much more. The new city fee schedule was redesigned to encourage water conservation, with the volumetric rate going up the more water a customer uses. This tiered approach not only benefits residents, but it also helps small businesses in Hutto.

Rates for city water customers outside of city limits are slightly higher.

These positive updates are the newest examples of the many ways the City of Hutto is taking a closer look this year at its entire operation for improved efficiency and effectiveness. In addition to analyzing the city’s water rates, city staff are also taking great time and care to assess the city’s sidewalk/pavement needs, salary schedule, personnel policies, developer impact fees, infrastructure, and future land-use plans (via the Comprehensive Plan under development) among other aspects of operations.

As part of the city’s recently updated fee schedule, the Hutto City Council also decided to eliminate fines for overdue Hutto library items/books. All unpaid late fines issued to date are forgiven, so long as your overdue item is returned. However, library patrons are still financially responsible for damaged or lost items.

Policy for overdue Hutto Library items

- At two weeks pLibrary Fees Update-80ast due, the Hutto Library patron’s account will be locked. The patron will not be able to check out any additional resources including e-books until the overdue item is either returned or payment is made to replace it.

- At 90 days past due, the Hutto Library patron’s account will be charged to replace the item.

- If an item is returned damaged (whether on time or past the due date), Library staff have discretion to charge the patron’s account for an appropriate repair or replacement.
