The City of Taylor Parks and Recreation Department will hold a dedication ceremony honoring the renaming of the Murphy Park Pool to the Doris Roznovak Aquatic Center on Saturday, May 28, at 11 a.m.

Everyone in the Taylor community is welcome to attend the ceremony and celebrate the official opening of the pool for the summer. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided after the ceremony, and the entrance fee to the pool will be waived for the day.

Ms. Roznovak, who passed away in March 2021, managed and worked at the Taylor swimming pool for 39 years. She was known in Taylor as “Mother of the Pool” and was a Taylor High School graduate from the class of 1945.

Taylor City Council officially approved renaming the pool during the May 13, 2021, council meeting after a request was made to the Parks and Recreation Department to change the name. The City received several letters in support of changing the name of the pool in honor of Ms. Roznovak.

“In the summer months, she was the extraordinary manager at the Taylor City Pool where she encouraged and instructed youngsters and helped them overcome their fear of water,” wrote Dixie Rhoades in her letter supporting the renaming. “Many Taylor children grew up spending hours of each summer day at the city pool where they felt safe because Me Maw Doris was in charge. They have fond memories of her smiling face and positive attitude.”

“We are honored to dedicate the pool in Doris Rosnovak’s name,” said Parks and Recreation Director Tyler Bybee “Many Taylorites have fond memories of Doris during their visit to the pool and we would like to recognize her many years of service to the Taylor community.”
