LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

In the Taylor Press published May 14, there a notice by the Taylor ISD board of trustees regarding creation of a reinvestment zone. This appears to be the first step to give Samsung a reduction in taxes on land purchased after the November 2021 tax incentive agreement. According to news reports, the original 2021 agreement by the Taylor school board reduced the amount that Samsung will pay in taxes to Taylor ISD by around $300 million over 10 years. This is in addition to 85 to 90% reduction in taxes over 20 years by Williamson County and 85 to 92.5% reduction in taxes over 30 years by the city of Taylor.

The initial tax breaks were done to encourage Samsung to choose Taylor for their new chipmaking factory. Now Samsung is apparently requesting tax breaks on additional land purchased after the original agreement. I do not agree with further reducing taxes for this multibillion-dollar company since any reduction for Samsung will mean that citizens pay a larger share of taxes.

I urge the citizens of Taylor ISD to voice their opinions to school board members and to speak at the May 24 public hear on this matter. I ask that our Taylor ISD school board members stand up for the citizens of this area by not granting further tax incentives to this multibillion-dollar company.

Historic Taylor

I did not know until now, that the Taylor downtown area recognized nationally in the National Register of Historic Places.

Our citizens can be proud of this recognition. There is a 109-page extensive documentation that describes, explains, photographs, dates, maps and much more.

I with the city of Taylor would promote positive types of recognition such as this.

Taylor should be proud of this achievement.

But, if anyone is interested, here is how to find it: Google “Historic Downtown Taylor, Texas.”
