Taylor falls in area round

The Ducks ended 2022 20-11-1 overall and 11-4 in District 19-4A and bi-district champions.

The Taylor baseball season came to an end this past Friday, May 13, as the Ducks fell to China Spring in back-to-back games on the road.

The Ducks fell 3-1 in game two of the series. China Spring put up two early runs in the bottom of the first inning. Taylor scored their lone run of the contest in the top of the third inning when Nick Treuter singled home Jonah Adame to close the gap to 2-1.

China Spring added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to regain the two-run advantage and even the series at one game each.

Taylor collected four hits in the game, and Matthew Aplin pitched a complete game striking out six.

In the deciding game, China Spring once again jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The Cougars extended their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the third inning.

The Ducks struck paydirt in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead in half. Chris Perez led off with a single, followed by a Cohen Tyree double. Ashton Vega reached on an error by the shortstop which allowed Perez to score the Ducks’ first run. Tyree scored on a sacrifice fly ball to center by Jackson Schroeder to make it a 6-2 game. Aplin then singled home Vega to cut the deficit to three.

China Spring added another run to push their lead back to four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, 7-3.

The Ducks bounced back in the fifth inning with two more runs to close the gap to 7-5. Aiden Aguero doubled home Perez and Tyree for the runs.

The Cougar offense retaliated in the bottom of the fifth inning with three more runs to bring the score to 10-5.

Despite the better hitting by the Ducks, their season concluded with China Spring taking two of three games in the area round.

Devin Valdez and Aiden Aguero split time on the mound with each striking out five batters.
