Diamond Lady Ducks advance

Kayleigh Page’s single in the seventh inning gave the Lady Ducks the lead in the top of the seventh inning of Friday night’s quarterfinal game against Jasper.

 

In a nailbiter, edge of your seat game for six full innings, the Taylor Lady Ducks softball team scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning for a 4-2 come from behind win in the regional quarterfinals against Jasper this past Friday, May 13 in Navasota.

For the first five innings of the game the Lady Ducks were held scoreless and trailed 1-0 heading into the sixth inning. Lindsay O’Dell walked to reach first base and Molli Kennick came in to pinch run. Kennick advanced to second base via a Kayleigh Page sacrifice. With a full count, A’ja Lucas doubled to center field to send Kennick around to score making it a tie game at 1-1.

Jasper regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 2-1 advantage.

Down to their last inning the Lady Ducks offense woke up. Mackenzie Watson led off the inning with a single. Camryn Nunamaker advanced Watson on a sacrifice bunt. Kennan Nunamaker singled to drive home Watson tying the game once again. On the throw from center field Kennan Nunamker would advance to second base. A passed ball during O’Dell’s at bat advanced Kennan Nunamaker to third base. O’Dell was intentionally walked to put runners at the corners. With two outs Kayleigh Page singled to center field sending Kennan Nunamaker in to score to give Taylor their first lead of the night 3-2. A’ja Lucas reached base on an error by the second baseman that also scored pinch runner Kennick that gave Taylor a 4-2 lead.

Jasper would only get a single in the bottom of the seventh as the Lady Ducks came away with the win.

Kennan Nunamker and A’ja Lucas each finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Lindsay O’Dell struck out 14 to bring her season total to 278.

Taylor will be the road team this Friday, May 20,at 7 p.m. as they will face the 33-5 Liberty Lady Panthers in the regional semifinal round of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) softball playoffs at Waller High School.
