Taylor receives block grant

Taylor municipal government was recently awarded $5,555,330 in 2020 Community Development Block Grant-Mitigation Fund (CDBG-MIT) from the Texas General Land Office. The grant, which partially funds the intended projects, is the highest grant amount ever awarded to the City of Taylor.

Taylor municipal government was recently awarded $5,555,330 in 2020 Community Development Block Grant-Mitigation Fund (CDBG-MIT) from the Texas General Land Office.

The grant, which partially funds the intended projects, is the highest grant amount ever awarded to the City of Taylor. The project funds will be used for improvements to the Donna Channel drainage system and for a regional detention project near Mustang Creek.

The CDBG-MIT Program provides financial assistance for flood control, flood mitigation and drainage projects. Taylor was eligible for the grant due to the city’s 2015 flooding event.

“This grant will help us make much needed improvements to drainage in the City of Taylor that will help with flood mitigation to the Donna Channel,” said City Manager Brian LaBorde. “We are grateful to be selected as the recipients of this grant funding

City staff worked with grant administrators Langford Community Management Services, Inc. and HDR engineers to apply for the grant. In order to complete the overall project estimated to cost $7,947,969, the city plans to use 2022 bond funds andTexas Water Development Board FIood Infrastructure funding to complete the project. Design work is anticipated to start in late 2022 to early 2023. Construction is expected to begin in 2024.
