Erma Evelynn Applegren Patton passed away April 20, 2022, after a short illness in Georgetown. Erma was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Wolf Point, Montana, to John Helmer Applegren and Alice Naomi (Corbitt) Applegren. They became parents to Mary Allene, Erma Evelyn, Arthur Gustuf, John David and Paul Burton.
Erma grew up in Wolf Point and Elkton, Minnesota, where she graduated from Elkton High School in 1944. She returned to Camas Prairie, Montana, then after her marriage to Charles Duane Patton, she resided at his family ranch in Hot Springs, Montana, from 1948-1951.
David Justin was born in Polson, Montana, in Feb. 5, 1949.
Duane went on to teach and complete his B.S. and master’s degree while they lived in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Kathy Ann was born April 12, 1952, in Springfield, Colorado, and Eva Lynn was born June 15, 1953.
They moved to Parker, Arizona, where Brian Duane was born in Blythe, California, July 29, 1955. In 1963, the family moved to Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, where Duane received his doctorate and Erma and Duane enjoyed gardening. Erma was an excel
Erma was an excellent seamstress and made two wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses for her two daughters’ weddings, which were two weeks apart.
Duane, Erma, and Brian moved to Ellensburg, Washington, where Duane became a professor at Central Washington State University. Erma became a gourmet cook during that time while participating in a scholarship luncheon program, which provided scholarships for the university. She continued to sew and garden while working for the chamber of Commerce in Ellensburg. On their retirement they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for several years and helped raise Eva’s children.
In 2002, they moved to Georgetown, where they lived the rest of their lives. Erma became an avid quilter and made over 30 quilts for her family from children to great grandchildren.
At 92, she made her last quilt, which was a king size quilt for her grandson for his wedding. Erma was a very kind and quiet person who would try to find ways to help people she encountered who needed help through her money, her time and her caring ways. She always had a positive attitude and a smile for everyone.
Erma was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Duane Patton (1922-2011); granddaughter, Christa Lynn D’Aurelio (1984-1999); grandson, Sean Thomas Lewis (1984-2018); sister, Mary Allene Yeager (1925-1997); brother, John David Applegren Argo (1929-2005); nephew, Johnny Yeager (1950-2000); Brian’s wife and Erma’s daughter-in-law, Janet Patrice Patton (1950-2009).
Erma is survived by her four children, David Justin (Ive) Patton, Kathy Ann (Steve) D’Aurelio, Eva Lynn (Al) Tafoya and Brian Duane Patton.
She is survived by eight grandchildren, Camelia (Davin) Fillpot, Anjelica (Travis) Motal, Michael (Caroline) D’Aurelio, Matthew (Julia) D’Aurelio, Heather Lewis Marcellas (Gerald) Chacon, Jared (Tiffany) Lewis, Mary Alice (Brian) Keller and Lucie Patton.
She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren including one born in May 2022 and two step-great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Arthur Argo from Plains, Montana, and Paul Argo of Spokane, Washington; half-sister, Susan Argo (John) Boston as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. We will remember you fondly, Mom, Grandma, Gigi, Aunt Erma and Erma.
