Anselmo Gudino Oranday Sr. 87, of Taylor, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022. Anselmo was born Dec. 23, 1934, in D’Hanis, to Cipriano and Amanda Oranday.
He was raised and grew up in Hondo. He married Maria Palomo Oct. 21, 1955. They were married for 67 years.
He worked at Kerr Ban in Hondo and moved with the company to Taylor. He then later began employment as a custodian for the University of Texas in Austin for 35 years.
Anselmo enjoyed watching wrestling on TV, gardening and Cowboy and Longhorn football. In his earlier years of marriage with his wife Maria they both enjoyed a Saturday night of dancing and meeting with friends, but overall he loved his time with his grandkids. Family was everything to him.
Anselmo was preceded in death by his wife, Maria; brothers, Pedro Oranday, Ramon Oranday, Thomas Oranday, Maximus Oranday and Tanis Oranday; and sisters, Estefana Reyes and Juanita Castillo.
He is survived by his children, Anselmo (Maria) Oranday Jr., Diana Garza and Armando (Yvonne) Oranday; brother, Abraham (Lela) Oranday; sisters, Severa Fernandez, Mary Torres and Irene Escamilla; grandchildren, Kellie, Reagan, Felecita, Anselmo lll, Rosalba, Brenda, Henry, Betty, Javier, Sylvia, Melissa, Isabel, Stacy, Abraham and Jade; many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A visitation for Anselmo was held Thursday, May 5, from 6 to 8 at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor. A Rosary occured Thursday, May 5, at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass was held Friday, May 6, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Taylor. Burial followed at Taylor City Cemetery.
Pall bearers were Abraham Oranday, Henry Oranday, Javier Oranday and Marcelino Lopez.
