There’s fun throughout the area this week. Starting Thursday,
Starting Thursday, May 5, the 43rd Annual Granger Lakefest & Homecoming will be rocking the land of the Lions with a three-day festival. On Saturday, May 7, Taylor will host Blackland Prairie Days.
Blackland Prairie Days
Live music, food, vendors and downtown businesses will be the highlights of Blackland Prairie Days.
The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and starts with the posting of the Colors by Taylorarea Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownies. The music lineup will perform from the amphitheater in Heritage Square.
City staff will close the streets at 6 a.m. Saturday, May 7. Staff and volunteers will
begin to layout the vendor spots on East Fifth Street and on North Main between Fourth and Second Streets. Food vendors will be on Fifth Street between Main and Porter streets while all other vendors – which include 21 informational booths and 33 arts and crafts booths – will be on Main between Fourth and Second streets. A train ride and bounce houses will be located on Main between Fourth and Fifth Streets.
Streets should be open by 5 p.m. after all the vendors have removed their tents and wares.
Granger Lakefest
Lakefest begins Thursday with Cinco de Mayo, where record crowds are expected. The Round Rock Ballet Folklorico Dancers will perform at 6:45 p.m., followed by a Tejano band featuring James Edward Sanchez and MalAccion at 7:30 p.m.. Other Thursday night activities include a margarita, queso, hot sauce and dance contest. There will be Mexican food vendors available Thursday night.
On Friday, May 6, the Gabor Nicholson Band will kick off at 7 p.m. with music from Billy Joel, The Allman Brothers, The Eagles and more. At 9 p.m., Granger’s own Garrett Pekar and Quinlan Kubacak will take the stage. Saturday will start
Saturday will start with a Kolache sale, parade, barbecue cookoff, arts and crafts, and food vendors at 10 a.m. Ed Kopecky’s Fun Time Czech Band will kick off directly after the parade. There will be a washer tournament, car and truck show, kid’s activities and more.
A live auction will start at 1:30 p.m. The proceeds will benefit the Granger City Hall Restoration Project. A feature attraction at the auction will be a limited number of original bricks from the brick street that was built in 1912. All three days
All three days will feature a carnival starting at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
