On Saturday, May 7, Vision Historic Preservation Foundation (Vision Rockdale) will host a jazz and derby Party at The 1895 140 W Cameron Ave. in Rockdale, as a fundraiser and outreach opportunity. Attendees can enjoy a day of various musical genres, food trucks, wineries and derbythemed activities, as well as gain insight into the foundation’s restoration and redevelopment plans.

Music kicks off at 2:30 p.m. with Charlie Weyler opening at the music tent, which will be set up on the old Philips & Luckey lot behind The 1895. Performances continue with the Sparky Thomason Quartet at 4 p.m., Blues Guitarist JD Pendley at 6:30 p.m., and headliner Christian Wiggs will hit the stage at 7:30 p.m. Also set up on the back lot will be three visiting food trucks, three local wineries and a few vendors featuring gifts for Mother’s Day. A photo booth and derby-themed games and contests – like a Derby hat contest – will add to the fun for attendees to compete for prizes.

“With one of our Mission pillars being to provide arts enrichment opportunities, the Foundation is pleased to bring to the community a variety of musical genres with the Jazz & Derby Party,” said Geritt Davenport, Arts & Programming chair. “Events such as this not only draw tourism to the area, they also enhance the quality of life in our community.”

Inside The 1895, Vision Historic Preservation Foundation will have on display proposed architectural floorplans and renderings of The 1895 restoration and re-development project.

“The Jazz & Derby Party is a great way to engage the public in plans for the future of The 1895 and the downtown district,” said Curah Beard, Vision Rockdale executive director. “It’s also a key fundraising opportunity. We have several grants in the works, one due this July with a $30,000 match requirement, which we hope the community will help us fulfill through their tax-deductible donations.”
