The 2022 Taylor baseball regular season concluded with the Ducks capturing their third straight win with a 7-1 win over Georgetown Gateway Prep this past Friday, April 29, in Taylor.

In their final three regular season games, the Taylor defense stepped up and allowed just one run in each of the games.

The Ducks offense caught fire in the bottom of the second inning. Matthew Aplin singled to lead off the inning. On an even count, two balls and two strikes, Devin Valdez tripled to send Aplin home to score the first run of the contest. Jake Jansky then launched a shot to left field to clear the bases and give Taylor a 3-0 lead.

The Ducks were not content with three runs as they continued their offensive charge. Nick Treuter singled to left field to reach base. Mario Aguero came in to run for Treuter. Chris Perez then reached on an error that advanced Aguero all the way to third base. Coby Hanson came in to run for Perez and swiped second base. Cohen Tyree grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Aguero to make it a 4-0 Ducks lead.

The Ducks added an additional run in the third inning. Dominick Hartman walked on four pitches to lead off. During Aplin’s at-bat, Hartman advanced to third base and scored when Aplin singled to left field to make it a 5-0 game in favor of the Ducks.

Taylor completed their scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning with two additional runs. Treuter reached on an error after a pitching change by the Gators. Aguero came in to run for Treuter once again. Tyree singled to advance Aguero to second base. Hartman then singled to load the bases for Taylor. Aguero was picked off at third base during Aplin’s at-bat. Tyree and Hartman both stole bases as Aplin reached via a walk. Aiden Aguero reached base on a walk to force home Tyree. Hartman crossed home by way of a passed ball to conclude the Ducks’ scoring.

Gateway scraped one run in the top of the seventh inning.

Chris Perez delivered a strong start on the mound, throwing a complete game. Perez allowed just one run on four hits and collected 10 strikeouts in the game.

Offensively, Taylor collected nine hits, including a two-RBI home run from Jake Jansky. Devin Valdez also posted an RBI triple in a key moment, and Cohen Tyree drove in a run on an RBI single. Aiden Aguero had an RBI in the contest as well.
