Senior Amayah Simien drove in three runs and scored twice in the Lady Lions dominating 11-1 bi-district playoff win over Johnson City last Thursday, April 28, in Cedar Park.
The contest remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Lady Lions struck first. Montana Moore walked and came home when Simien drove a single to center field for the 1-0 lead.
Granger then exploded in the fifth inning for five more runs. Pitcher Payton Filla walked and advanced to second base after Marissa Hall reached base on an error. Defensive interference sent Filla to third base Hall stole second on the same play, and Mattie Wilkie reached first base on an error that sent Filla home, doubling the Granger lead 2-0.
Hall came in to score and Wilkie moved to third base prior to Moore drawing a walk to make it a 3-0 contest. Simien sent another shot to center field to drive home Wilkie and Hall to make it a 5-0 game. Luna singled with a 3-1 count to advance Simien to third base. Abby Carpenter then reached on an error by the shortstop to send Simien home to make it a 6-0 Lady Lions lead.
The Lady Eagles broke into the scoring column in the top of the sixth inning with one run.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Lions scored five more runs to close out the game. Wilkie singled, Moore walked and Simien was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Granger. A walk to Luna forced home Wilkie to make it a 7-1 game. Carpenter then reached on an error that drove home Simien and Moore for a 9-1 lead. With a 2-1 count, Alex Harwell ended the game with a single that scored Carpenter and Luna for the win.
