A rodeo – of sorts – and bike ride are ways Taylor residents can tell the city how to improve its development.
Taylor’s municipal government, in partnership with Simplecity Design, have two avenues this week for the community to provide input on Taylor’s development code. A design rodeo will be Tuesday, May 3, and then a bike ride will be Saturday, May 7.
City staff say that Taylor’s development patterns are being represented with the current rules on the books. The events will show how new development differs from historic areas of Taylor and how development codes will shape Taylor’s future.
Design rodeo
The Taylor Design Rodeo will be 1-8 p.m. at the Taylor Public Library, 801 Vance St. The event is meant to be a fun way to “wrangle the key development standards to demonstrate sample code elements.” Professional artists will use different code standards to illustrate the future of some Taylor locations.
To begin, the design rodeo will host community roundtable talks and design sessions.
Discussions will be arranged by topics such as housing diversity, retail and restaurant growth, neighborhood design, small town charm and more. The conversations will give artists information from which to illustrate.
At 6 p.m., there will be a design dialogue and open house. Tables will clear to allow for a deeper dive into city code using the illustrations and earlier discussion for more insight.
A livestream of the Taylor Design Rodeo will be at http://www. taylortx.gov/660/ taylor-videos.
Bike ride
Prior to Blackland Prairie Day festivities, the Plan Taylor Bike Tour will start in front of the library. Residents are invited to come along with their families to tour Taylor’s built environments in some of the city’s renowned neighborhoods.
Attendees should come with their bikes to the library at 8 a.m. before the bike ride, which begins 15 minutes afterward. The tour concludes and heads to the festival at 9:30 a.m.
