There are some new and exciting things coming to the 43rd Annual Granger Lakefest & Homecoming. You definitely won’t want to miss any of it.
An additional night has been added this year. We will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Thursday, May 5 in Granger in full style and tradition. Record crowds are expected.
Once again, the carnival has been secured and extended to Thursday night. They will kick off at 6 p.m. or sooner if the crowd is there.
Wrist bands were discussed, but with the rising cost of diesel, it was not an option. To run the generators, it takes about 10 gallons of diesel per hour. Then, there is the added cost of moving the equipment from place to place.
The Round Rock Ballet Folklorico Dancers will perform for the crowd at 6:45 p.m., followed by a live Tejano Band at 7:30 p.m. There will be four costume changes and a variety of different dances.
You will have the opportunity to hear the music of James Edward Sanchez and MalAccion. He is a very talented and amazing musician and is very excited and honored about being the very first Tejano band to play in Granger for Cinco de Mayo Night.
Sanchez is no stranger to Granger. He attended school at Granger High School and was on the 1997 football team that took Granger to state and won. He has been playing music since he was about 13, starting out in his Dad’s band.
Other Thursday night activities will include a margarita, queso, hot sauce and dancing contest. There will be Mexican food vendors available on Thursday night.
A feature attraction by Miss Casey Bice, of Granger, is something to look forward to. She is the only person who could pull it off. You definitely won’t want to miss it.
Friday night, the carnival will kick off at 6 p.m. The Gabor Nicholson Band will kick off at 7 p.m. He plays a variety of music ranging from Billy Joel, The Allman Brothers, The Eagles and many more. He has a voice that can bring you to tears one minute and have you rocking the next. Another act you won’t want to miss.
At 9 p.m., Granger’s own Garrett Pekar and Quinlan Kubacak will take the stage. They are both amazingly talented and will fill the air with beautiful music and harmony.
Saturday will start off with a Kolache sale, parade, barbecue cookoff, arts and crafts, and food vendors. Ed Kopecky’s Fun Time Czech Band and the carnival will kick off directly after the parade. There will be a washer tournament, car and truck show, kid’s activities and so much more.
The live auction will start at 1:30 p.m. The proceeds will benefit the Granger City Hall Restoration Project. A feature attraction at the auction will be a limited number of original bricks from the brick street that was built in 1912. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. Don’t miss out on a chance to own a piece of Granger’s deep and rich history.
Lakefest will have a bit of something for everyone this year. There is much effort and work that goes into an event of this caliber. Many dedicated team members make it hap pen by working for a common goal while keeping up the long time Granger tradition. You could pretty much sum up Lakefest as a puzzle. All the team members are the puzzle pieces and it takes each and everyone of them doing their part and working hard making the puzzle come together as a whole.
Cinco de Mayo is actually an event in an event. It’s going to be an awesome night and will put Granger on the map.
A beer garden was looked into, but with the cost of a license and strict Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission rules, no vendor was interested.
Ice chests are welcome. Attendees are asked to use cans and no bottles to keep everyone safe. Don’t forget your lawn chairs, water, Gatorade and sunscreen.
A lot of hard work has been put into Lakefest and it’s going to be a fun and exciting year. I am very excited look forward to everyone having a great time.
