The Taylor ISD school board recognized four staff members at Monday night’s meeting and expressed deep appreciation for their efforts in not only keeping students safe, but saving lives.
During a trip of the boys soccer team to a recent game, the driver of the chartered bus suddenly became ill and unable to perform his duties. Coach John Brockway took over and safely brought the bus to a stop. Taylor SD Transportation Director Carl Caldwell immediately responded to the need by arranging for a school bus to transport the team, and TISD bus driver Dan Dixon made sure the team safely continued their journey.
At Taylor Middle School, counselor Candice Martin’s quick actions saved the life of a student when that student began choking and was unable to breathe. Martin administered first aid procedures to clear the student’s airway.
All four heroes were presented with certificates of appreciation and thanks from the school board and superintendent.
