Get ready for the return of Blackland Prairie Days Saturday, May 7.

Officials say it’s one of Taylor’s most anticipated celebrations honoring the region’s agricultural roots with plenty of food, fun and frolic.

“The festival is shaping up to be a great day,” said Main Street Manager Jan Harris in a prepared statement.

The last Blackland Prairie Days took place in 2019, then went on hiatus during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Harris, the festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and takes place on North Main Street from Fifth to Second streets.

Food vendors will dish out the goods on East Fifth between North Main and Porter Street.

Musical performances take center stage at the amphitheater in Heritage Square.

Open during the same hours as the festival itself, the Heritage Square Farmers Market “will be in its normal location under the pavilion,” Harris said.

The event opens with a flag ceremony led by local Boy, Cub and Girl Scouts, followed by the Taylor High School Chorus performing the national anthem.

Adults will have plenty of things to keep them occupied, ranging from shopping, live music, food and drink, but there also are activities scheduled for children including a train ride.

Because the event also takes place on Election Day, “there will be parking allocated to citizens seeking to vote in City Hall during the festival hours,” Harris said.

Those wishing to register as vendors must turn in an application and payment to Harris by the close of business on Monday, April 25.
