The Taylor High School band and color guard have stayed busy marching to their own beat this spring by bringing home several awards.
On Friday, April 8, the band and color guard participated in the 131st Battle of Flowers Parade during Fiesta in downtown San Antonio. The two-and half-mile procession is the only all-woman run parade in the United States.
The tradition dates back to 1891 when an affluent group of San Antonian women decided to honor the heroes of the battle for Texas independence.
This marked the third time the THS band and color guard took part in the parade.
Watched by an estimated 550,000 spectators lining the route the band earned second place for Best Out of Town Band.
In addition to traveling to San Antonio for the Battle of Flowers Parade, the THS wind ensemble competed in the University Interscholastic League Region 18/26 concert and sight-reading evaluation in Bastrop April 13.
The wind ensemble received a division one rating — the highest that can be earned — from all six judges.
