If children are ready for their first ever day of school this fall, the time to sign up is now.
Registration is now open for prekindergarten and kindergarten classes at T.H. Johnson Elementary School for the 2022- 23 school year. Parents may register children during school hours or at special evening events from 4 to 7 p.m. April 18 and May 19.
To qualify for prekindergarten, a student must be four years old on or before Sept. 1 of the enrollment year. Prekindergarten is free for families who qualify, and tuition-based prekindergarten is offered for families who do not qualify for the free program.
Qualifications for free prekindergarten include residing in Taylor ISD and one of the following conditions in which the child is:
• unable to speak or comprehend the English language because another language besides English is spoken most of the time in the home or the child speaks another language besides English most of the time;
• eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price school lunch program, or the child receives Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families or Medicaid benefits;
• homeless;
• the child of someone on active duty, injured and/or killed while serving on active duty in the armed forces of the U.S., including the state military forces or the reserves;
• the child of a police officer, firefighter or emergency medical responder seriously injured or killed in the line of duty and received the Star of Texas Award; or
• ever has been in Child Protective Services custody or in foster care.
To qualify for tuition-based prekindergarten, a $400 deposit must be paid at registration, followed by $400 monthly payments.
To qualify for free 3-yearold prekindergarten (PK3), the student must be 3 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the enrollment year, reside in Taylor ISD and meet one of the same requirements listed above for free 4-year-old prekindergarten. There is not a tuition-based option for PK-3.
To qualify for kindergarten, the student must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the enrollment year. Students who are currently enrolled in prekindergarten at T.H. Johnson Elementary School do not need to register for kindergarten.
Before school starts, parents must provide the child’s birth certificate, social security card, current immunization records, proof of residence (current utility bill or lease agreement) and the parent’s driver’s license or ID.
