The Bremond Tigers (10-10 overall, 5-5 District 27-2A) rallied from a 5-2 early deficit and scored an 8-7 win over the Thrall Tigers (15-6-1, 8-2), scoring the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Thrall got to the Bremond pitching staff early for four runs in the top of the first. A double by Jack Watson and singles from Hayden Stefek and Noah Hammack pushed the first run across for the Tigers. From there, Thrall was able to take advantage of a pair of Bremond errors and a Brady Peterson single to grab a 4-0 lead.
Bremond cut the lead in half with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, but Thrall answered in the second. Bobby Clark singled to open the Tiger second and advanced to third on Jack Watson’s grounder. Clark scored on another grounder by Stefek and the Tigers led 5-2.
Thrall had pushed its advantage to 6-2 in the top of the fourth and appeared to be on their way to the win, but Bremond tallied five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-6 lead. Bremond got to the Thrall pitching staff for four hits and took advantage of a couple of Tiger miscues to grab the lead.
The Tigers pulled even in the top of the sixth inning. Jack Watson led off with a double to right, and scored on brother Cayden Watson’s single to center to knot the score at 7-7. But, Bremond wasn’t done. With two outs, Bremond picked up a seemingly harmless single. But, two passed balls put the runner at third and an error by the Tigers allowed the runner to come home for an 8-7 Bremond lead.
Thrall got two runners on in the top of the seventh inning, but could not advance past second in suffering their second district loss of the season.
Both Watsons, Hammack, and Brady Peterson knocked out two hits each to pace the Tigers’ 13-hit attack. Cayden Watson took the loss, surrendering seven runs on six hits over four innings.
The Tigers began a crucial, two-game series with Holland (11-12, 7-3) on Thursday night in Holland. The Hornets will travel to Thrall on Tuesday. The Tigers’ final series will be against front-running Thorndale beginning Friday. Thrall will host the first game of the series and will close out the regular season in Thorndale on April 26.
