A popular Taylor trail could get a hike in improvements.

On Thursday, April 14, the Taylor City Council will consider options for reconstruction of Bull Branch Trail as a 2022 capital improvement project. City staff has presented concerns on estimated costs outweighing the available budget.

Tyler Bybee, Taylor’s Parks and Recreaction director, was on the Taylor Press’ Facebook show “Taylor Talk with Jason Hennington” where he mentioned the condition of Bull Brand Trail amid potential projects by the parks department.

“It’s kind of holding on by a thread at times,” said Bybee about the trail’s asphalt. “Hopefully, we have something going to council this Thursday with options on how we can (address that).”

The trail runs between Lake Drive and Davis Street north of the creek. Upgrading Bull Branch Trail is a priority project in the 2020 Parks Master Plan, which calls to replace the existing asphalt with an 8-foot wide concrete trail and add benches, trash receptacles and wayfinding signage.

“Hopefully in the next year, you’ll see some improvement to that part of the trail system,” said Bybee.

Approximately $200,000 has been allocated for the project, but contractor estimates exceed $300,000. An additional resource could come from Samsung Quality of Life funds.

City staff will present three main options on how to proceed with the project.

In other business, the council is scheduled to:

• present a proclamation on Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month;

• introduce an ordinance updating cemetery rules and regulations; • hold a public hear

• hold a public hearing and introduce an ordinance on a designation on Reinvestment Zone No. 9;

• receive a presentation from Retail Coach regarding Taylor’s trade area analysis and recruitment services;

• receive an update on the community development block grant project list and approve modifications to the list; and

• enter into executive session on Samsung project.

The council meeting is at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 400 Porter St., in the council chamber. Those wishing to address the council have a threeminute limit and must sign up by 5:45 p.m.

The council agenda and live video stream of the meeting can be found at http://www. taylortx.gov.
