Most individuals at some point during life will have back pain. Maybe you have had an accident, injury or even just slept wrong and you wind up with back pain. In many cases this is self-correcting and will just go away in a few days. However if you are similar to many of our patients and your back pain is not going away and has been lingering for weeks, months or years or you notice you only get relief when you are taking pain medications or antiinflammatories - this is NOT NORMAL!
The fact that the low back pain is not going away is sign that your body is not healing on its own is and an indication that you may be a candidate for chiropractic care. Numerous studies have shown manual therapies (chiropractic) to be effective for lower back pain, in addition to neck pain and herniated disc radiculopathies along with many other conditions. Many times, we hear “I went to a chiropractor once and it didn’t help.” That is like saying you went to the gym one day and didn’t end up fit. For those individuals who have been suffering with intermittent recurring low back pain, you may be dealing with damages of ligaments, the disc, or degenerative changes (arthritis) all of which can be improved and increase function while decreasing pain if the root cause is found.
In fact, we find that in many of our low back patients may have a neck issue that is leading to many of the problems in the low back. One of our patients, D. Kelley, states “I was having constant leg numbness, extreme low back pain to the point of not being able to walk, muscle pain in neck so bad my wife had to help me out of bed. After a few weeks of care, It is nice to be able to dance with my wife again. Everyday life is much easier than the way it is to be.”
