How do we have a year in review when we are missing half of a year? Sports all around were put on hold in March, and as of today continue silenced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the accomplishments and achievements of our student athletes still deserve to be recognized and celebrated.

Less than one month after Coach Jason Cole stepped down from his role as Thrall ISD Athletic Director/Head Football Coach, the school has filled the position with a coach with a winning background. The school announced Thursday evening that Coach Rick Porter will be taking over the position.

The Tigers hosted their annual Tiger Invitational over the weekend, but the three-day event was cut short when three schools withdrew from Saturday’s games.  The Tigers finished up play Friday night dropping a decision to the Hutto JV and beating Florence in the nightcap.

After a slow start to the season the Thrall Tigers knocked out three wins this week.  On Tuesday the Tigers put 17 runs on the board in the bottom half of the third inning and rolled to a 21-1 win over the Bartlett Bulldogs.

Jessie Cole held the Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars to three hits and struck out 15 over seven innings of work and helped lead the Thrall Tigerettes (7-5, 1-0) to a 5-0 district-opening win Tuesday night.

If the first weekend of the 2020 softball season is any indication the season is bright for the Thrall Tigerettes.  The Tigerettes posted a 3-2 record against stiff competition at the Cameron Tournament over the weekend using a combination of strong pitching and good hitting.

Mumford’s Brant Scarbrough hit eight 3-pointers Tuesday night and the Mustangs hit a total of 11 shots from behind the arch in route to a 64-38 win over the Thrall Tigers.

The Thrall Tigerettes rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to knock of the Mumford Lady Mustangs 39-34 Tuesday night in the regular season finale for both teams.

Thrall’s Addison Leschber scored 19 points and the Tigerettes forced 56 turnovers in a 63-17 rout of the Milano Lady Eagles Tuesday night.

The Thrall Tigers outscored Milano 49-19 over the second and third quarters in route to a 71-43 drumming of the Eagles.  The win keeps the Tigers very much in the thick of the playoff race as they reach the midpoint of the district schedule.

Addison Leschber scored 13 points and Chandra Reed scored nine points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds to lead the Thrall Tigerettes (15-10) to a 40-31 come-back win over the Hempstead Lady Bobcats.

Stephen Graham hit six of eight shots from the field to lead all scorers with 12 points and paced the Thrall Tigers (6-11) to a 42-25 rout of the Bartlett Bulldogs Tuesday night.

While the Thrall Tigers continue to struggle to get in the win column, their efforts so far this season have kept them in most of their games against solid competition.  Last weekend the Tigers posted a 1-2 record in the Somerville tournament.

This past weekend District awards were released for the Thrall football and volleyball programs. Both finished the season strong. The football program finished 6-5, returning to the postseason and the volleyball team finished 35-15 advancing to the regional finals.

The Thrall Tigerettes (6-5) turned in a solid performance over the weekend at the Thrall tournament.  The Tigerettes posted a 3-2 record in the 3-day event losing to a strong Shelbyville team in the third place game on Saturday.
