Earlier this month, Feb. 3 was national signing day. Though no longer residing in Taylor, Gage Lowry of La Vernia High School signed his National Letter of Intent for Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX. Beginning in 2020 Tarleton State made the move from a D-II up to D-I and will play as an Independent in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
As a QB for La Vernia Gage was in the top 10 percent of his graduating class. He was selected MVP for UIL District 14, having passed for 30 touchdowns and 2,750 yards this year. Lowry aims to be the best he can be on and off the field.
Lowry’s choice, along with pursuing football, was also based on his desire to pursue his degree in Civil Engineering.
Lowry is the son of Chance and Yvette Lowry and has two brothers Cloe and Gunner. He is the great grandson of Dorothy Newman, and the grandson of Gary and Annette Maruska of Taylor.
