Taylor tennis is underway in the 2019 season with new Head Coach Lisa Little. The team returns one senior, Caleb Nunamaker, five juniors, Ryan Kennick, Trey Boles, Uriel Flores, Raven O’Bier, Cecilia Parker and Jacquelin Glenn. Sophomores include Trey Boles, Jackson Schroeder, Rhett Richardson and Troy Glenn. Also, five impressive freshmen are already adding to the talent.Hayden St. Claire, Jake Jansky, Mason Hortenstine, Yahir Cancel and Bodie Randig.
This season Taylor tennis is off to an unbalanced start with only three girls working out since practices began on August 5.
“We are working on getting some more girls interested in being a part of Duck Tennis,” new coach Lisa Little said. It’s tough starting a meet already five points behind before the first ball is served.”
Despite the lack of participants, the team is showing their talent and determination on the matches than can count. Taylor opened the season at Robinson Tuesday, August 13 winning two out of three Boys Doubles, four out of six Boys Singles and the Mixed Doubles match. Giving Taylor seven out of ten wins for the boys.
Doubles scores were Kennick/Boles (8-0), St. Claire/Jansky (8-0) and O’Bier/ Richardson (8-4). Singles scores were Kennick (8-0), Schroeder (8-4), Flores (8-0) and St. Claire (8-0).
This past weekend Taylor hosted Killeen, falling to the Roos by just one match.
“I am so proud of the effort everyone is putting in!” Coach Little said. “Despite the heat, the players are consistently coming out to compete and improve every practice and match.”
Doubles scores were Kennick/Boles (7-6, 7-2, 6-1), Nunamaker/St. Claire (6-2, 6-4), Schroeder/Jansky (6-2, 6-0). Singles scores were Parker (6-4, 6-4) Kennick (6-1, 6-2), Boles ( 7-5, 6-7, 10-7) Schroeder (6-1, 6-3), St. Claire ( 6-0, 6-3) and Flores (6-2, 6-0). Of the remaining matches, four of them went into 1st set tie breakers.
