The Thrall Tigerettes had beaten the Granger Lady Lions fourteen consecutive times, prior to Saturday’s contest. In five very competitive sets Granger came out the victors 21-25; 27-25; 11-25; 25-23; 15-13. With the exception of Thorndale and Milano, no other school in the district has defeated the Tigerettes since Granger in 2012.
Thrall took the first set and Granger evened taking the second. In the third set Thrall jumped up big and never relinquished. The fourth set was as equally intense as the first two and the final set had fans on both sides of the court rocking Granger Gymnasium.
After the victory Coach Lopez said, “I’m speechless right now.”
For the Lady Lions Junior, Carsyn Locklin-bilbrey had 10 Kills and 4 Aces and 7 Digs to lead the team. Seniors Audrey Messex and Caitlyn Murrah led the Lady Lions in Digs with 13 each. Youngsters Macey Lopez and Alexi Wade also contributed 7 Digs each to the cause. Lopez also added 8 Kills and Junior, Gracie Springfield had 6 Kills.
For the Tigerettes Chandra Reed led the team with 17 Kills and teammate Riley Krenek added 13 more. Kelly Copeland led the Thrall with 9 Aces.
Last night the two schools met once again in a tiebreaker match to determine District-Runner up.
