With 7 seconds remaining in the Tuesday nights home replacement game against the Leander Lady Lions, Aubrie Sanchez knocked down the go ahead lay up to push the Lady Ducks record to 9-1 on the 2020 season with the 36-34 win.
The first and second quarters were identical with the Lady Ducks outscoring Leander 10-7 in each to take a 20-14 lead heading into the halftime locker room.
In the third quarter the Lady Lions turned up the heat bouncing back and taking a three-point lead with 1:09 remaining in the quarter. Leander would finish the frame up 31-26 lead.
Leander outscored Taylor 17-6 in the quarter with the Lady Ducks going scoreless up until midway through the period.
At the 4:46 mark in the fourth the Lady Ducks trailed 29-32. They would only give up one more basket to the Lady Lions the remainder of the game.
By the 4:04 mark Taylor had pulled with in one, then tied things up at the 3:41 mark.
Sanchez’s late layup sealed the win for the Lady Ducks pushing their winning streak to three games.
Ansley Reed led Taylor with 15 points. Natalie Alderete was shutdown from long range going 0 for 6 but managed to tally 8 points. A’Ja Lucas gathered 7 points and 5 rebounds. Lakaysha Davis had 8 rebounds and 4 points.
The Lady Ducks were in action Friday against Scurry-Rosser and will be on the road Tuesday against Robinson.
