Taylor Ducks track star Tanner Welch is reaching for newer heights. Wednesday morning, July 17, Tanner was out practicing at the Taylor High School complex, with his dad. The weather was a usual Texas humid morning with a slight breeze, but that didn’t stall Tanner’s routine.

“Setup and think about your take off,” his dad, Mike Welch called out.

Last weekend, in Orlando at Disney’s ESPN complex, Tanner competed in the Club Nationals where he finished third. The heat and the wait time may have played into the outcome at the competition. After warmups Tanner had to wait nearly five hours in the Florida heat to jump.

Going into Nationals this year Tanner’s plan is to, “jump higher and get on some 15-foot poles. It’s going to take 16’3 or 16’6 to win,” he said.

Tanner will be competing in the National meet Aug. 3 in Greensboro, NC where he hopes and plans to come out on top and above the bar.

Be sure and check out recent episodes of Around the Watercooler featuring Tanner.
