Despite giving up two runs the Lady Ducks sailed to a road win over Gateway Prep Thursday night 12-2.

Kennan Nunamaker belted a double to get the Lady Ducks offense started in their first plate appearance of the night. Delecia Strait followed up Nunamaker’s double with a single bringing her home to give Taylor the 1-0 lead.

Lindsay O’Dell sent Strait home after she singled followed by an errand throw. Alison Smith would come in to run for O’Dell and would also cross paydirt when A’ja Lucas knocked a single to right field to increase Taylor’s lead to 3-0.

Lucas would advance to third then score on a groundout by Alyssa Ortiz giving the Lady Ducks a comfortable 4-0 lead.

In the second inning Nunamaker’s second double in as many at bats would score Taylor’s fifth run of the night as Allison Ortega crossed home.

With Maggie Ryines and Nunamaker on base O’Dell would advance on a walk. Ryines would score on a passed ball. Moments later Nunamaker would score on an error by the catcher increasing the lead to 7-0 while O’Dell moved up ninety feet.

Again, Smith would come in  to run for O’Dell. Lucas would walk putting runners on first and second with one away. the Lady Ducks offense would stall there.

In the fourth Nunamaker would reach on an error by the center fielder. Strait would then watch four straight pitches be out of range and trot to first base.

A bobbled fielder’s choice would load the bases for the Lady Ducks. A passed ball would increase their lead to 9-0 as Nunamaker came home. Lucas would then single keeping the bases juiced.

A grounder to third by Ortiz came up in the Lady Ducks favor as Smith, in once again for O’Dell, scored increasing the lead to double digits at 10-0.

Still with nobody out Taylor would score one more run capping their four run fourth as Lucas scored.

Leading 11-0 the Lady Ducks could relax a bit. A lead off walk by O’Dell would prove costly in ending the shutout, however the no hitter remained intact.

Taylor would wrap up their scoring to make it an even dozen in the fifth. After a Nunamaker three bagger, Strait would ground a ball to the right just enough to send Nunamaker home giving Taylor the 12-1 advantage.

Gateway managed to get a second run late, but the no hitter was complete.

Nunamaker finished 3-for-4 on the night tallying seven bases. O’Dell went the distance striking out seven and walking two on 84 pitches.

The Diamond Lady Ducks move to 10-1-2 on the season and will be back home Tuesday to host Salado.
