The Hutto Hippos are off and running with a 15-1 start to the 2019-20 season and are undefeated in December so far. The only loss this season for the Hippos came back on November 23 in a two-point defeat at the hands of the 6A Bell Blue Raiders.

In the Hippos most recent victory they brought home the championship in the 7th Annual Bob Hayes Classic tournament with an 84-74 win over Manor. In the contest Senior PG, Jean-pierre Sanders went off scoring 41 points and bringing down 14 rebounds for the Hippos.

Hutto opened the tournament taking down host school LBJ-Austin 81-72. In the game Sanders led all scorers with 28 points and brought down 6 rebounds. Senior, Marcus Hill also contributed 15 points in the Hippos win.

On Day 2 of the tournament the Hippos took down Eastside Memorial in big time fashion 83-11. Hutto led 41-3 at the break and was led by Sophomore, Kaden Smart’s 22 points in the contest. Junior Jailen Bedford wiped the boards for the Hippos collecting 8 rebounds.

In the second game of Day 2 the Hippos dominated once again taking down Manor New Tech in a 79-28 clubbing. A game in which four Hippo players scored in double digits led by Smart’s 14, followed by Bedford’s 12 and Sanders’ 11.  Senior Xavier Patterson’s 11 points rounded out the quad. He also led the team with 7 assists and 5 steals in the game.

In the semifinal match of the day Hutto beat Copperas Cove 78-43 surging ahead early 32-9 after the first quarter. By halftime the Hippos were in full control 46-25 and they never relented giving up just 18 points the rest of the game.

The Hippos are currently ranked #10 in the 5A TABC Top 25 rankings. They were again in action Tuesday night on the road against the Burnet Bulldogs.
