After closing out last week on a down note the Taylor boys basketball team bounced back at home taking down visiting Gatesville on Tuesday Dec. 8 40-35.

The Ducks came out firing to take the opening quarter 13-10.

In the second the Hornets and Ducks remained close finishing 9-9 in scoring. The Ducks maintained their slight three-point lead heading into the locker room at halftime 22-19.

After the third frame the Hornets had inched closer as Taylor’s lead was cut to two at 31-29.

Maintaining 9 points in a quarter for the third straight quarter gave the Ducks the slight 5-point win over Gatesville. The Ducks defense in the quarter held the Hornets to just 6 points.

Taylor had 31% effective FG percentage in the game. The Ducks were 7 for 27 from longball range shooting just 26%. Transition, second chance and turnover points were in the Ducks favor, but the Hornets did win the battle in the paint outscoring the Ducks 26-10.

Taelor Derry and Iroquis Jones led the Ducks with 9 points each. Jones also led with 15 rebounds. Sophomore, Conner Cobb added 11 rebounds to the Ducks win.

The boys were on the road last night at Manor New Tech before a 5-game home stretch, to include their district opener against Jarrell.
