Down by as many as fourteen points in the 3rd quarter the night was looking bleak for the Ducks, but a 4th quarter surge propelled the Ducks to their tenth win of the season over Weiss 55-51 Tuesday night on the road. Overall the game was fast paced, for both squads, with many of the inbounded passes reaching the opposite end of the court before the defenses were set.
The opening quarter was tight. After remaining scoreless after the first two and a half minutes the Ducks finally drew first blood. At the end of the quarter Taylor held a slim 12-11 lead on the Wolves.
In the second quarter Weiss picked things up outscoring the Ducks 18-9 to take a 29-21 lead into halftime. The Ducks were again held to less than 10 points in the third, as Weiss continued to pour the scoring on. Heading into the final frame the Ducks found themselves trailing by 11.
If there was a turning point in the game for the Ducks it must’ve been when Senior, Devin Garcia was whistled for a technical foul in the 2nd half.
When the 4th quarter commenced the Ducks slowly edged back into the game. With 5:17 remaining Weiss still held a 7-point lead. A minute later that lead was cut to three and with 2:57 remaining the Ducks tied things up. Defense and free throws propelled the Ducks the remainder of the game as they pushed their lead to 6 with 1:12 remaining in the game. A couple of shifty shots at the end by the Wolves narrowed the gap but two final free throws by Taylor at the end sealed the victory for the Ducks.
Garcia powered the Ducks with 28 points. Ja’Von Carver tallied 13 points and Ja’Ron Carver added 8 points. Josh Blue added two key buckets in the fourth that added to the 4th quarter surge.
Friday night the Ducks were once again on the road against Dripping Springs. They will also be playing in the Austin Hwy 620 tournament scheduled for December 27 and 28.
