Morales named all-state

Taylor center-back Bryan Morales earned second team all-state honors from TASCO last week.

Soccer season may have ended a month ago, but the honors continue to roll in for the Taylor Ducks.

Last week, the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches (TASCO) released its all-region and all-state teams and four Ducks made the cut.

Bryan Morales earned a spot on the all-state second team, while teammates Sergio De La Torre, Stephen Morales and Tino Morales were included on the Region IV-4A first team.

"These awards just go to show that Taylor soccer is on the map," Taylor coach John Brockway said. "They show that hard work and dedication pays off."

All of the long hours at the gym and on the pitch have certainly paid off for Bryan Morales, who adds all-state honors to an impressive résumé that includes 2019 co-Defensive Player of the Year in District 26-4A.

He was also one of three defenders named to the Austin American-Statesman's all-Central Texas boys soccer team along with Luke Koppel of Dripping Springs and Griffin Smith of McCallum.

"The talent has always been there for Bryan, but his work ethic sets him apart from other players," Brockway said. "At morning workouts during first period, Bryan would talk about his workout from the night before at HT Fitness."

Bryan missed a few games during the regular season due to a concussion and dealt with a knee injury during Taylor's playoff run, which ended in the regional semifinals, but still made his presence felt.

The senior center-back helped the Ducks keep 13 clean sheets on defense and chipped in six goals when pushing up on set pieces.
