Alyssa Ortiz sends one out of the park against Giddings in Taylor's bi-district win.

The Diamond Lady Ducks are headed to the area round. Taylor breezed by the Giddings Lady Buffs with no problems on Wednesday in Cameron, in back-to-back bi-district playoff shutouts. Both games finished by a score of 9-0.

In the 5 p.m. game Taylor started early with the fireworks. Kennan Nunamaker singled to lead off and made her way to third via an error and passed ball. Delicia Strait walked to put runners at the corners. Strait would move up swiping second base.

In a rare put out Lindsay O’Dell grounded out to second base driving home the Lady Ducks first run of the game.

A’Ja Lucas would be hit by a pitch to get on base. Alyssa Ortiz the singled sending Strait and Lucas home to put Taylor up 3-0.

Kayleigh Page then stepped up and before she walked Ortiz advanced to third on a pair of passed balls.

Mackenzie Watson then singled sending Ortiz home extending the lead to 4-0.

In the second inning Taylor added another run. Nunamaker doubled and Strait singled to make it a 5-0 game.

Taylor sealed the game in bottom of the fifth inning. Allison Ortega singled, Azalie Balusek  came in to run for her. Maggie Ryines walked, Nunamaker singled and Natalie Alderete came in as a pinch runner. Strait grounded into a fielder’s choice to the pitcher who threw home for the out.

Then the game exploded. O’Dell stepped up and on a 2-2 count launched a grand slam over left field for the 9-0 lead, sealing the game.

The second game nearly mirrored the first. O’Dell homered in the first to give the Lady Ducks a 2-0 lead, and Ortiz doubled in Lucas making it a 3-0 game in the first inning.

Kayleigh Page drove in Allison Smith in the third putting Taylor up 4-0.

Ortiz homered to open the fifth for the Lady Ducks extending the lead to 5-0.

In the top of the sixth Taylor added four more scores to take the series.

O’Dell went the distance in the circle in both games for the Lady Ducks, striking out 16 collectively and allowing just three hits in the series.

The Lady Ducks advance to the area round where they will face the winner of the Rusk/China Spring series.
