In perhaps the volleyball contest of the year for our area the Granger Lady Lions fought back from an 0-2 deficit to take down the Thorndale Lady Dogs last Tuesday in the remaining three sets. 24-26, 20-25, 27-25, 24-23, 15-13. The win gave the Lady Lions a leg up on Thorndale in district, with Granger sitting in second place just behind Thrall at 5-2.
As a team the Lady Lions tallied 93 digs, 58 kills, and 53 assists. Junior, Macey Lopez led the Lady Lions overall with 20 kills, 24 digs, 1 ace, 2 blocks, and 1 assist. Senior, Carsyn Locklin-Bilbrey added 20 kills, 15 digs, 2 aces, and 5 assists.
Montana Moore led the team in aces with 3 and along with 14 digs and 3 assists. Junior, Erin Kirkwood also had key contributions with 11 kills, 2 digs, and 2 assists.
The assist queen of Granger, Senior, Alexi Wade accounted for 43 of the Lady Lions 53 assists. Wade also added 2 kills and 18 digs against the Lady Dogs.
Granger was in action Saturday on the road against district leader Thrall. They will follow up that game with a home meeting with Rosebud-Lott on Sept. 29.
