The Granger Lions moved their record to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in 2A-2 Region IV District 13with a 43-16 shellacking of the Iola Bulldogs Friday night on the road.
DJ McClelland got things going for the Lions in the first quarter from 2-yards out putting Granger up 7-0.
Later in the quarter it was Donnie Cantwell’s turn as he pushed through from 1 yard out. The PAT was no good and Granger led 13-0 after one.
The next two Lions scores came from the passing game when Thomas Rhoades connected with Cantwell on a 26-yard score and later Rhoades tossed a 16-yard touchdown score extending the Lions lead to 29-0.
The Bulldogs finally broke through making the score 29-8.
Cantwell and McClelland once again traded rushing scores. Cantwell from 17 yards out and McClelland on a 42-yard rush to paydirt.
By the start of the fourth the Lions held a commanding 43-8 lead. Iola got another score on a 51-yard touchdown pass but as the dust settled the Lions were the victors.
Rhoades went 12 for 21 with 151 yards and 2 touchdown passes. Cantwell won the rushing battle on the night with 119 yards on 14 carries. Johnny Ryder led in receiving with 5 catches for for 72-yards. Tripp Wilkie led the defense with 9 tackles.
The Lions will be back home next week to take Burton before their final road test against Snook on October 30.
