Taylor Softball

The Lady Ducks softball team ran through the competition at their invitational tournament this past weekend. The team outscored their opponents 67-3.

The Lady Ducks shutdown Jarrell and Rockdale on Day 1 then on Days 2 and 3 picked right back up beating McCallum 14-0, Holland 13-2 and Gateway 16-0.

On the second day the Lady Ducks began play against McCallum. After the first inning the Lady Ducks already held full control with a 9-0 lead and after their second inning sealed their 14-0 win. In the three-inning game Mackenzie Washington and Lindsay O’Dell combined to give up just one hit. Avery Tumey went 3-for-3 at the plate and added 3 RBI’s in the dominating win.

A’ja Lucas knocked a round tripper and Katie Henson went 4-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBI’s and three runs in the Lady Ducks game against Holland. Going into the fifth Taylor led 5-0 over the Lady Hornets. After the opening half of the seventh the Lady Ducks had extended their lead to 10-2, sealing the game. O’Dell went 6 innings on the mound striking out 11 and relinquishing just 2 hits.

The Lady Ducks saved their best defensive effort for the last game. Not only did they shutout Gateway, O’Dell pitched a no-hitter. Striking out 8 over 4 innings. The Lady Ducks grabbed the lead early in the top half of the second 2-0 and never looked back. The Lady Ducks offense blew up in the third and fourth innings, scoring 12, surging ahead 16-0 on their way to an unbeaten home tournament. Alyssa Rios went 3-for-4 from the plate collecting three triples 2 RBI’s and scoring twice

The Lady Ducks record now stands at 12-2 on the season. The Lady Ducks were in action Tuesday Mar. 11 at home against Canyon Lake.
